Logging in to your blog

In the set up, you assigned/were given a login and a password. Login to your blog and if you’re the only one who uses your computer (or you can trust any others who might too) then it is much more convenient to get your browser to remember your password. I also click on the “remember me” and it will remember the last user who logged in and keep them logged in, which saves time each time you want to blog or do something on your site.

The login page can always be found at yourblogaddress/wp-admin/ so:

  • if you set it up in the root folder, it is http://domain.com/wp-admin/
  • if you set it up in a folder called blog, it is http://domain.com/blog/wp-admin/
  • if you set it up in a folder called wordpress, it is http://domain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/

This is worth remembering because some themes forget to give you a Login/Admin link and panic is known to ensue. In the default theme (WordPress Default 1.6 by Michael Heilemann, ie the blue one), the link is called Login before you login and is under “Meta” is at the bottom of the righthand sidebar. “Login” changes to “Site Admin” once you’ve logged in.

Here is a screenshot of the Login link in the default theme:
