Choosing a Blog System
There are a few ways of getting yourself a blog, but the main two are: 1. A Hosted Solution. This nvolves you sign up for an account on somewhere like Blogger and they give you some free space for your blog. It’s usually free and really simple. On the downside, you can’t really do much in the way of customising if you start getting ambitious. Blogger’s the most well known but there are heaps around including some that have paid upgrades.

- MySpace
- Cooeey (Australian)
- Angelfire
- Wordpress.com (this is the hosted version of wordpress and is a good tryout of the system before launching into the full version below)
2. Your own blog on your own host: Like hosted solutions, there is a whole heap of variety in blogging software that you host on your own server from the commercial (but free for personal use) Movable Type, to the extremely popular open source WordPress. Plus there are heaps of content management systems like Drupal and Plone that have blogging modules. Here’s a couple of review sites: opensourcecms.com and cmsmatrix.org.
I’m going with WordPress for this and the 365ideas.org blog because it’s open source and it has HUGE support which means lots of development and heaps of help available… and I really like it!
